    Opinions please?

Glad you like it. I have to agree, it's one of my favourite workhorses. That edge looks superb!

The TR12-S (if that's it) is a stunning little beast, also Elmax, and like you say they are very well finished. Andreas is a great guy to deal with as well and he knows what he is doing. For value for money at the price point they are hard to beat.

    Oh deer, my hide smells

Thank you all for your excellent inputs. In the end, we sadly had to throw them because they were pretty foul smelling and definitely rotting, and I didn't have the time to experiment, especially given the not terribly good chance of success. I appreciate the help though, thank you.

    Oh deer, my hide smells

They've not been kept cool, let's say... so that's probably it. I think they're gonna have to go in the bin -- we just had a proper look at them and they're pretty manked :(

    Oh deer, my hide smells

My lovely wife took me to Norway, and we brought a couple of reindeer pelts back, the woman who sold them said they were 'as preserved as they needed to be', so we naively thought well that sounds ok then, and we bundled them home. Fast forward three years, and they're dropping hairs like...

Making mincemeat of a eucalyptus with a supersteel

I don't think it's quite within cutting comp specs (I don't recall why) but it's close. It's 6mm CPM-10V at about 62 HRC I believe. The flat grind stops 10mm from the spine, and it's got a very sharp convex edge. Carbon fibre & G10 laminate handle.

Making mincemeat of a eucalyptus with a supersteel

Just got back in from the garden, where I used this Farid chopper in CPM-10V to strip a recently felled 25 metre eucalyptus of all its minor branches, and then cut them into lengths short enough for burning (not allowed large fires)... must have been hundreds of heavy cuts through 1-inch plus...

    British Blades Forum - down

Now watch as everyone scrambles on and it crumples under its own weight :D I'm glad it's back but I'm also kinda glad it went because otherwise I'd not have discovered this superb spiritual sibling of a site, which is really rather excellent. Will be spending more time here for sure. Also just...

    British Blades Forum - down

This is impossible while the server's down... it would require either the DNS pointing at a different server, or the server to come back up. The fact it hasn't indicates, most likely anyway, an administrative issue rather than a technical one. I'm sure it will get sorted.
