Hi all! been a while since i've been on here, I'm building a canoe, it's a kevlar hull but i want to use wooden thwarts and i have some nice pieces of yew hanging up in my workshop, the wood is not suitable to make a bows so i was wondering if it's possible to use it to make the thwarts and...

Thanks, i think i know a place that might do it. I've read about burnishing the sapwood on the back of the bow with a smooth stone or glass bottle, Is this something you have tried? I'm already thinking of making my next bow, think i'm hooked!:rolleyes:

Just need some advise on finishing a bow, at the moment i'm sanding out any tool marks and i'm just wondering what the best way to finish the bow, varnish? oil? I want to bring out the beautiful grain of the yew and also protect the wood. Also thinking about adding a leather grip and arrow...

Thanks for the tips! As for retillering for a shorter bow, i'd rather not. it's already shorter than i had wanted due to an awkward knot in the stave. The stave started life with a bit of a twist so i think i was always in for a bit of a challenge. I'll try taking some wood off the...

One is twisting a little more that the other, meaning the string is not going in the centre of the handle, so when i draw the bow the handle is twisting in my hand. I haven't put nocks on yet, i'm still using self nocks filed into the limb tips.
