Can it be done?

I have found methods to splice traditional rope, and cored rope, but this is new to me.

and my rope bag has a lot of it in

It can be done, I put eye splices at either end of my climbing rope years ago. It’s obviously far more complex dealing with 8 strands than 3, but careful work with a small fid will see you right.

Once you start, don’t stop until the splice is complete, breaking off for a few days will leave you wondering where you were up to.

Google is your friend for walkthroughs.

I didn’t mention it’s a headache in the making, be cool and patient, prepared to unpick and re-thread time and again until it’s right. Strong tension on each tuck, until your hands hurt, absolutely no slack or slop in the rope. Practice on a useless bit first, I took 3 feet off my climbing rope for that, what with it being a lifeline and all. ;)
