I use a whisk (stainless steel loops fastened together into a metal handle) for making batter, gravy, custard and the like; how do I make one out of birch ?

cheers,
Toddy

Natural wooden whisks that I have seen have been twigy branches, stripped of their bark and cut down to size......I cannot say how good they are (they look good in dispay windows of fancy kitchen shops though!) as I have not tried one!

Hi Toddy

You can make the handle out of any hardwood, beech oak ect, then i would drill four 6 or 7mm holes at the end of the handle,to insert your whisks i think you might be better though with rataan for the whisks instead of birch, you can can get rataan canes of ebay for the job, hope it helps
