They are "Plank Hooks", but the age of them has seen the spike worn away...

I'm going to vote for dibbers. The one on the right may be a worn down plank hook, but the one on the left looks like it has a wider piece on the end.

The way the handle is on the top, would lend it self to walking up the row, and pressing your foot on the metal bit sticking out the side. But the footplate bit looks to long, you'd be catching it against your other foot, and it doesn't need to be that long, or have an up turn on it.
And any way, if the ground is so hard you need to put your foot square on it to make a hole to put a seed in, then you've got a problem.........
I think I've just managed to convince my self that they aren't dibbers.........

At first looking superficially I thought it was a sort of cant hook or peavey for turning logs, but looking again at the pics and the name "plank hooks", I reckon its a specialised tool for maybe moving fresh sawn planks in the saw mill by leverage, or more likely a carpenters tool for closing up warp gaps in boards when they are being nailed onto a frame (clapboard?) so as to get them straight and parallel. Although this may be totally wrong if there arent clapboard clad timber frames in your location.....:lmao:

how about lifting floor boards ?

push the pointy bit through the gap in the floor boards with the stickyout bit going through the join in two boards, twist the handle through 90 degrees so the stickyout bit is under the width of the board ....then lever backwards to prise the floor board up

nagh.....that don't sound right ! :(

Does the similarity to bilge/boat hooks and the fact that they are in a pumping station say anything to anyone?

They're stop-plank hooks. They are for lifting out the stop-planks from sluice gates. I believe you jam the pointy end in between the planks to separate them until you can get the hook through (flat) then rotate as you pull back so the hook is in the right position for lifting the plank out.
