I cannot directly help with the leather but like the idea of "different" hat bands.
On my Tilley hats I have plaited leather and beadwork from Africa and hat bands from various natural cordages (green willow, bramble, honeysuckle, tanned willow) braided and twisted together) plus a couple of feathers and porcupine quills collected on various expeds and trips.
Different is good!

G H Leathers do exotic leathers, they are on the same street as my kids school.

The range now consists of STINGRAY, PYTHON, EEL, CROCODILE, OSTRICH and OSTRICH LEGS
