Took my boy out to check the sap.

Late afternoon and we're off to the woods to check for Birch sap.

Almost got dinner with the car on the way.

The heathland turning into woodland

Put up a roof for the boy to tuck into some oreos and hot choc under whilst I looked for a suitable Birch.


Flowing nicely down the blade. I'll be out on Tues to put a tap in.

Hard work done, time to polish off what little is left of the refreshments before packing up in the dusky light.

He foraged them for himself mate. I'd have thought a fellow chocolate obsessed bushcrafter would know about the lesser spotted oreo plant. Page 362 of Mearsey's Wild Food book

Let the reindeer drink it Santa You'll do your rounds in record time and get half the night off. Actually, I drank it this time but will boil some down to syrup and freeze some into ice cubes.

Luckily I saw it, just in time too as it scooted across the road. It nearly didn't make it through the winter.
