... but now I'm signing off. As some of you may have noticed, I haven't seriously posted for some months now. I've made a lot of new friends here and have learned a lot theoretically, but i've got my reasons to sign off now. Id rather not make a drama story out of this, so I'll just keep it simple and clean and say that i believe the site has lost it's spark in some way. A lot of posts are reposts by now and there are so many members, it's hard to keep track of them all so to say... Back in 2004 when I joined, there weren't so many members and the athmosphere were different here. :)

This is one of the more 'down-on-earth' reasons, so i'll just avoid mentioning the rest or it might easily just cause some kind of frustration with some. :)

You can mail me if you need to at sysoft.mail at gmail.com or andersjensen.mail at gmail.com, use whatever
you like. ;)

All the best, Anders/Andy :) Happy bushcrafting and hunting. ;)

Take care Andy. The place has been quieter without you these last few months.
Happy trails.

I do agree that a lot of the posts are repeats, with the odd new thing now and then, but I like to think that we help those starting out. As you say though, they are your reasons to leave and I respect that, I hope you might drop in now and then just to tell us how you are getting on, and that you have a good time doing whatever you do.

Andy.............Never say never mate, but I wish you all the best, we haven't really spoke much before, but I do know where you are comming from, when you mention change. We as humans hate change, but you have to remember that this site is open to all, including newcomers too, and they are going to ask the same questions that you asked when you first started, so now you are feeling that the site is going nowhere, but it is, especially if you are new to it, and I have to say I am getting lots out of it still. I am sure you have a lot to say to the newbies as well as the full members and if you go you will be missed, even if you think you won't. I say, take a sabatical or whatever you need and then come back and try again, even if you stay on the sidelines....................Jon

Well happy trails and all that Andy.

I've been here a few years now too and rarely feel the need to post cos we've been through the discussions several times already - but there are a new bunch of people on board who are learning and who need to ask some of the same questions you and I asked at the start.

There is a body of experience on this forum that I know I can call on if I have a new query or if I just want to run an idea by them. Equally if something piques my interest - well I do have a few specialisms myself and sometimes I can help someone out with an answer or a tip.

Anyway what I'm getting at is that I don't think it's neccessary to say never again - just drop in and read whats going on and post if you feel the need. If you don't feel the need then just drop by some other time.

All the best Viking

George

Viking,
It is a shame that you have decided to go. As a relative newcomer to the site I am still learning a lot of new things and really enjoying the chatter, and trying to help from my own experience when I feel I can. This site is not much different from a lot of magazines when you think about it. Once you have purchased them for a couple of years you realise that the same sorts of subjects start to come round again, its inevitable. There are limits to the range of subjects and issues we can discuss. However, I think that is the great difference and benefit of a site like this. If you agree you can say so immediately, if you disagree you can get it off your chest at once. Its a lot harder to do that with a magazine. To me this site offers immediacy, if I want to know something I can ask, if I can offer some assistance I can do it, now. A lot of the stuff may be the same but every now and they along comes a gem. Just like life you never know what's round the next bend in the trail. Whatever you do and wherever you go, enjoy it. ;)

Andy,if you think about it,your 2 happy years were because of the guys on BCUK who had been around enough and knew enough to pass on valuable knowledge to you.

How would you have fared if they had all said what you are now saying? :)

Not a dig,just a thought. ;)

Each to his own.Enjoy whatever you decide to do with your life. :D

I never get too concerned about topics and subjects repeating themselves. That's just the nature of the beast. If you take a look at magazines, they all do it. For instance, in any given year, you will find an article in Outdoor life about fishing basics, shooting basics, hunting basics, etc. That's because new folks make up a huge part of the readership. Outdoor magazines are full of the same stories, just told in different ways. Same is true for forums. What separates the forums from the magazines is that everyone here is a contributor. If you don't like the content, then contribute the content you want and don't waste your time reading the stuff you don't like. I sure don't follow every thread.

Forums don't survive the long run because of all the new info that is being presented. Forums survive due to trust, friendship, a modicum of tolerance, and the art of conversation.
