Spoon knives have a curve for carving spoon bowls, crooked knives can vary for different tasks.

Spoon knife or hook knife is what Europeans call a curved hollowing blade, they are normally used palm down. Crooked knife or mocataugan is the native American knife which is usually used palm up, they can be straight blades or curved for hollowing.
Neither is better they do different things in different ways.
