This is probably a silly question, but does soda flour contain gluten? A google just seems to turn up loads on soda breads etc, and doesn't address the question. I'm guessing that it's basically flour with soda added. If so another item is scored off SWMBO's food list.. :(

Usually soda bread is made with wheat flour, so yes it will contain gluten.

Google gluten free soda bread - there's plenty of recipes on line for making it with gluten free flour which is easy to find in most supermarkets nowadays. It won't look and taste quite the same as the wheat stuff though.

By the way - pancakes made with buckwheat flour, which is gluten free, are way better IMHO than those from wheat flour.

Nagual the question aint silly at all but your guess is correct.Doves Farm do a pretty decent g/free bread mix which you can raise with soda but it does seem to come out pretty heavy rather than scone-like as a wheaten soda does.Definitely try the buckwheat pancakes though they're seriously good also tasty if you add 10% hemp flour for a change.
