Generally I'll have an Aberlour in the cupboard as it tastes like bonfire toffee and is usually on offer.

But my choice tipple is an Islay - a nice Laphroig or Lagavulin, or perhaps a Caol Ila. SWMBO calls 'em "peaty bog water" - that's a ditch I'd happily fall into.

Currently I'm supping an Isle of Jura Original.

How about you?

I have a friend in the village with many. I so enjoy visiting him!

I like them all, but with many its the association of a good time and one of those was with a Lagavulin 16. I tasted it again afterwards and..well it was still gorgeous :)

Cant go wrong with Jura and when not in peaty mode, the Sainsburys sherry cask is nice and also cheap.

Morrisons is the place for offers though ;)

I got the 18 yo aberlour before Xmas. The £40+ one half price. nice.

Went to the coop one night to just get some cheaper whiskey end of last year for when I didn't want to waste single malts. Something like a grouse (just for a whiskey mac or something like that). Anyway it turned out one of the Jura malts was actually just about the same price so couldn't resist tasting it.

Anyway last December and possibly part of November too I had Aberlour 18 yo, jura, highland Park and I think a Laphroag too but can't really remember. Must admit my recycling box didn't look too flattering in December again. Every December Booths near me always has a lot of malts on offer. That's when I develop a single malt habit. Basically I work my way through the malts on offer. Trouble with they keep changing them so I have to drink up. My one rule is finish one bottle before getting the next hence the filling up of the recycling box (not helped by missing one fortnight collection).

Know what you mean about Booths, wish we had them in this neck of the woods....

Anyone else go to the York Whiskey festival?

Its a bit quiet on the bargains there now and I think Morrisons and ASDA are doing better deals right now. But at least you can get a decent range.

BTW anyone who likes drinks like malts, bottle conditioned ales, wines, brandys, etc and live near Clitheroe in Lancashire should go to this little off licenceon the same road as that big hardware store is but further away from the road with the station on from that hardware store. It is a really treasure trove of alcoholic treats!!

Ive been working in so many of the great whiskey distillerys of Scotland that ive lost count.
The thing is that its your taste, and people can only give you a guide.
Here is my top 3
bunnahabhain
balvenie
knockando
Ive not put any ages on the selections as i think you should try their 12 before you shell out for their more expensive drams.
