I have used it for carving and it can be very rewarding, it is a tight wood but it has a beaufiful grain if you get a nice bit.
if you are going to use it for eating or drinking tools make sure it is well dried and treated before using it.
I have a spoon in it and the wood looks fantastic, very dark brown with a lovely grain patern to it.

If you have done a bit of carving before I would highly recommend it.
