I still use my 5" x 4" cameras. Ilford D400 B&W film is tops.

The kudliq is fueled with finely chopped seal blubber. The heat of the flame seems to melt as much as needed.
I presume at -40C and windy, the flame is never put out, for heat and light in the igloolik.
But for travelling, the blubber could congeal = nothing to spill.

I have a thick museum catalog of First Nations goods, the biggest kudliq is 36" long!

I think I could get away with running a kudliq with sheep's tallow.
Use cotton grass (which you guys never see) or some sort of hairy/fruticose lichen as a wick.
Snuffed out, the tallow should solidify just fine. Bee's wax would work that way, too.
You might experiment with various sorts of dried mosses as wick material.
