Greetings chaps,
Had a bit of a womble today in the mother in laws shed (she's clearing it out).
Amongst an old auger, a file, and some really nice (very) old tobacco tins, I found a sharpening stone in a wooden case, quite large, not sure exactly if its an oil stone or a waterstone.. I'm not an expert so how do I tell if I should use water or which kind of oil if I can't put water on it??? Its a very fine cold natural stone feel to it, but has a lot of marks in it from bad use over the years.. Just ran the axe over it dry, and seemed to sharpen quite nicely!
Any help would be appreciated.... Do you think I could have one of those expensive waterstones that's recommended for knives etc??
