My grandad kindly let me have this:

Its very small and light, good for spoon carving.

Also the head is made from sheet steel bended round and welded.
I thought this was "cheap" at first but it makes it very light and very good at chopping.
I have now got it knife sharp.

It says on the handle (which has some fancy grain pattern)

Its made from John & Cattel, id this a good brand, or collectable?

Thanks

Handed down from a previous generation. You can't put a price on something like that. Tidy it up, look after it and cherish the memory.

if its the same firm, they now evidently make car parts but I am sure they made garden spades, forks rakes and other tools back in the 60's or earlier?

Thanks people.

Just removed the metal wedge and thinking whether to make a new hadle or re-wedge the original.

I have never seen grain pattern like this one has, can you see that in the pictures?.

And ill take that advice JonathanD.
