Teaching is a little like telling a good story. You need to sit down and work out everything in order and the best ways to demonstrate your skill. Dont hurry, this is not a race and when your confident that its right, post it up.

Leon's day out...

Fire lighting using common reed, birch bark, crampball in grass taken to fire, rubber inner tube, cotton wool, handgel, char cloth, buffing material and making a nest

Striking matches, protecting matches, making a shotgun match case, using a lighter,

A walk to look at tinders and……
Trees: Alder , Elder, Willow, Sycamore, Birch, Ash, Hawthorn
Plants: Butterbur, Self-heal, ground Ivy, Stinging nettle, mint

Discussed construction of debris and kennel shelter building

Sawing and cutting, knife safety

How to make a pot hanger

Creating a fire, building a fire, setting up pot hanger, boiling water, extinguishing fire

Making one metre of nettle cordage

Setting up a basher and tying these knots…..

Evenk figure of eight hitch, tarp taut hitch, guy-line slippery loop, hanking cord.

Questions:

1. What would you consider about a location, before setting up your camp?
2. What is distinctive about the Alder leaf and what did I make with it/use it for?
3. How did I make my matches burn longer and waterproof?
4. What distinctive feature can you see when you cut a Crampball in half?
5. The leaf of which of the above plants did i say could be dried and then burn to provide an salty ash residue for flavouring your stew?
6. Why should you make a platform to create your fire on?

Good luck mate!
