Blimey! Get yourself to the docs matey, quick! That does not sound normal at all!

I don't generally advocate a visit to the old quacks but I think in this instance it might be a good idea! Ask to be referred to a specialist for sure!

Good luck and hope you get some help with this

Yeah, that sounds like either a fungal or parasitic infection of some kind. I normally only hear of things like that when the victim has been in the tropics.... i don't think we can count the Lakes as tropics...

Sounds a bit more servere than just an allergic reaction mate.

I get a hellish reaction, I've just had three cysts cut out caused by insect bites, funnily enough three weeks later and there's not a scar to be seen :)

You probably need something that soothes the skin now. When it itches rub around the bite with a little cream. If you're not allergic to lanolin Kamillosan is good or there's a really good one called Eurax that will stop the itch, didn't seem to help to heal much though.

If you really want to diy then get some real honey (contact Locum76 or one of the other beekeepers) and make an ointment with melissa pr chamomile or chickweed or lavender or whichever skin herb you know you aren't allergic to, and sweet almond or jojoba or even just plain olive oil and thicken it with a little beeswax. I find myrrh and rose oil works fine on me.

cheers,
Toddy

Now I know this will sould repulsive but, when I get bit , if its a bad one I cut across the bite with a razzor the rub a garlic clove into the wound, yep, it hurts like hell but heals without a trace. I must stress that copious amounts of beer before hand seems to help.....

I'd echo what those above have said - I'd see the doc soonish..

For 'in field' treatment, as soon as you know you've been bitten, the best thing I've found is what used to be called a 'Zapta-click'. Basically you stick it over the bite and press the button a few times - delivers a small piezo-electric shock which seriously eases the itching, and associated inflammation. (And no, I have no idea how/why it works!)

An example is at the bottom of this page - just a random google...

I think in this case a trip to the doc's is wise. My first line against bad bites is one of those piezo-clickers to alleviate the itch, Boots sell them, then I mix a thick paste of baking soda and apply a little as a poultice to dry it out and draw any infection - seems to work for me.

I don't seem to get bitten, so I've no advice for that
However, get thee to a quack mate as you just can't be too careful of your heath
