was asked by a friend to make them a spoon, this is the result :)

A quick question, what would be the best wood for a spoon that is going to be used very regularly? a friend is going to catering college and wants a spoon making for use on the course.

Cheers

Will

VERY PRETTY

and only your third!! i'm impressed, need to get mine underway this weekend me thinks

ill see what wood i have knocking about lol.

As for your catering friend i would use sycamore, nice to look at decent strength and mildly antiseptic, in a food environment it can only help!

Interesting handle profile on that one Dean, the way you keep the bowl depth along the handle. Presumably it gives extra strength in a serving spoon.

I would like to say I did it that way but the truth is I let the wood decide, no pencil touched this piece all done by hand and eye. I guess the spine on the handle would offer a huge amount of support, I was trying out some new carving techniques and this was the result.
