Marooned soldier survived 120-mile walk in the subarctic after 1943 plane crash.

Bushcrafter (boy, I've got a lot to say!)
While fitness is important and useful and sometimes is all that is necessary for survival, if I heard someone say "It's 30 miles only, let's go!" I'd be inclined to praise his fitness and drive and suggest that I'd only be holding him back.

Travelling at that rate inevitably means higher calorie consumption, greater dehydration, less time to observe ones surroundings and possibly overlook critical weather, terrain and resources in the habitat and lead to a greater risk of injury or danger any of which could start the slide into the incident pit.

It's a good way to get someone to transport 'spare' equipment, water and provisions to a forward cache and save you the effort.;)
