LK35 Mod Questions

I have recently purchased an Swedish LK35 and had a couple of questions about a few common modifications ive seen people do:

1. For the side pouches mine have a metal bar through the back (I guess to clip it onto the belt) do people normally take those off?

2. For the same mod, the side pouches, where should you sew through, inside the seam or outside of it?

3. How are people normally attaching the hip belts?

Any other cool modifications I should know about/try?

I attached my hip belt by welding a couple of brackets to the frame which can be seen in this thread:

Wow. You have bought pouches! After buying the rucksack at a bargain price, I couldn't bring myself to pay what was being asked for pouches!

Will watch with interest as I plan on making some pockets from scratch.
