I know it is somewhat over priced....£56 and 11 bids when i looked :-( , but I wondered if anyone knows where I can get/make one of the cooker things? The bottle and mug are pretty standard fare but I've not seen the stand/cooker before. I normally use either rocks, thick green branches or even 6" nails and tent pegs in the past as a stand for the mug.

Anyone help?

Cheers

I think USMC used to sell them for £15 ... but they are catalog only. I don't think they have a web presence yet.

Just noticed that the cooker youre looking at burns solid fuel, and not meths, like the trangia....seems a lot of money for a little kit!

I've been thinking of getting one of these http://www.survivalschool.co.uk/shop2004.htm

Maybe someone here has used one, and can give a bit more info?

Don't waste your money it is way over priced.

If you use a58 pattern water bottle and the crusader cup which fits over it then the british army are about to start supplying a cooker that fitts under it and uses that greenheat gel. i believe it is at the end of the month and they are supplied by BCB survival products abd will also be sold to the public through there normal shop retailers so should be tougher than that cheap alloy one which i have tried and found you had to be careful not tolet the cup fall over due to the weight.

The new stove was seen in the Combat & survival Mag i believe it was the November issue .

they are oks but not that effecent havent got the air flow etc

i have one i got in canada its in a box some ware round here and has been for years

you can easilly make one from bit of ally sheet bent round the cup with a cut out for the handle when stowed and acess to teh fire when in use plus a few 10mm holes round the other side to allow air flow out just under the bottom of the cup.

they used to make a fold up version out of thick tin foil

they work oks sort of with one Hexi block but you cant get much more under there with out it smothering its self

PS if you wanna waste £50 i could be persuated to have a dig out and find mine :nana:

i would have a go at making one, but living in a single room (university halls) and having no access to tools somewhat limits me.

Amazing what ppl will pay if something has SAS on it

It just looks a nice simple bit of kit, I have the mug and bottle already. and use these and the bottom part would be useful, like I say I improvise at the mo.

That new bit of army kit sounds just the thing

I would venture to suggest that if you give it 6 moths or so you'll be able to pick up one of those for a lot less dough.
Or you could just get a second crusader cup and spend a little time "reworking" it.

I have seen those cookers that fit on the cups for about £3.50 on the internet. I'll try and find the link. A friend of mine had one which was made from aluminium and overtime it just got distorted so much he ended up binning it.... not a great piece of kit..... nice idea though.

..and buy some to sell on eBay to daft punters with too much money yet not enough sense!

Or am I the only one that would do that?

This is an extremely rare item that you are unlikely to ever see for sale in the normal channels.

This specialist modification is often prepared by the SAS.

This is a compleate LIE
this is neither a rare item nor a 'specialist modification for the SAS'

this is an US army surplus canteen stove made of aluminium and a british 1944 army issue Mug (the US army issue mug is almost identical), you can buy these all over the place for a few pounds

if you want one buy one from here for £3.99:

http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/military/index.htm

look under fieldcraft - cooking - second page - product code:MAC034

I have one in my attic somwhere
