home crafted catapult.

ive recently been making custom catapults from cape buffalo horns,carved from a solid piece and polished to a high sheen,the anchor points are hand stitched leather as is the holster.
it starts like this:

Awsome! In the U.S. we call them slingshots, so when i read the title I thought you were gonna make like a midievil trebuche/catapult! I want one!

How do you get it into shape? Is the smell the usual for antler etc?
