Hello,
New member, 40 and some years from Norway.
Been lurking on this and other Bushcraft/camping forums for a while. Thank you for a good forum.

I hike and camp a lot, looking for a place to share mine and read about other people trips, knowledge and experiences. Hope I can contribute in a positive meaningful way.

Maybe i'll regret saying this, but; Feel free to correct my grammar and spelling..and other mistakes for that matter.

Phantastic!

We got one who is probably able to deliver all informations about the old Norwegian military tent sheed!

Are they still offered somewhere?

And you? Where do you live?

In the middle of Oslo or somewhere in the woods, married with a järv?

Welcome to the forum; I look forward to your contributions :)

Don't worry, there are plenty of us Brits on here that can't spell and with dreadful grammar - it may be you correcting us!

I know nothing about military tents, but I will happily provide links and translation if there is anything specific you're after.

No Jerv, no wife, but a I have a dog and maybe he is game... I live rural in the middle of Telemark and do most of my camping in the forests and mountains around here and a place called Hardangervidda.

Thank you! Being an active member of a forum is new for me, but I hope to change that.

Aha!

Some of my friends from the Scouts in Düsseldorf went many years ago for snow shelter camping with historic equipment in the Hardangervidda.
It was very nice but pretty hard equipped only with the old leather, wool and linen stuff in the snow holes.

Perhaps a bit crazy...

The Norwegian army developped an own cotton or linen tent sheet in rhombus shape which could be used to create several different tent sizes, most others used square or triangle sheets.

The system was outstanding intelligent designed. It's as good as impossible to get informations about it via internet, especially if one doesn't know the Norwegian vocabulary.

I think you can dig for the informations about it between December and February.

;)

That is pretty brave, but apparently doable. How/what was their sleeping gear?

You mean knappetelt? A modular tent where each soldier in a team carry their own piece, it can be used alone or buttoned put together to a (drafty) shelter. Knappe-telt=button-tent.

Yes-yes i have tried knappetelt, and almost died of Carbon monoxide poisoning in a tent like that when I was in the military.

Tell me and I'll give you some links.

Mange Takk, too!

:encourage:

Yes, I mean exactly this!

:)

The famous but nearly unknown
Norwegian KNAPPETELT !

I already opened in our forum an own thread for it: The world is waiting for the most secret informations about it!

If they come in Norwegian instead of English it doesn't matter, because that's pretty similar anyway.

(And especially similar to my home dialect. I would say Knöppezelt, even if Zeltbahn would be the correctly translation)

The thread about it is here:
