Garden Trellis

Hi all

I want to make my own garden trellis for my rose bush. I am thinking of using willow or hazel. It will be in similar size to this:

but in a fan sort of shape...

Has anyone made anything similar and can offer any pointers? I would like to bind it all together with cordage made from the willow bark.

Your probably too late to cut hazel this season as the new growth is going up now. It is a nice material to use though, it splits in half easy and you can also bend it. You could join it with cordage, or use copper nails peened over like rivett's? Or you could use the hurdle technique-weave split hazel with the ends going into stiles at either side? If you used willow you could make a living trellis where it is rooted in the ground?

I like the sound of the living willow, i live close to a river with shed loads of the stuff - how would i go about making it??
