Exceptional Craft

This is not bushcraft but .... My wife isn't driving at the moment so I drove her over to the Quilting Exhibition in Gresford earlier today and had a wander around myself. Although I don't do any needlework as such I can appreciate both the artistic quality and hard work that's gone into some of the exhibits.

Outstanding in my view was the work of Dilys Fronks. Her large scale, wall hanging sized, quilting was just fantastic. This is a snap shot of a quilt called 'Open Gate' but if you Google her work there are loads of examples of equally awe inspiring stuff. I didn't measure it but it must be near 2.4m x 1.8m

Needlework isn't really my thing either, but seen similar work before and i really do think that the skills and design flair that go into these designs is quite exceptional.

 

[Mesquite]

My mother used to do quilting and I've got several completed quilts and wall hangings of hers. Beautiful, intricate pieces which still leaves me astounded with the skill and patience she showed in making them.

She did special quilts for my brother and sister which they helped design but sadly she wasn't able to do mine before she became too ill to do quilting anymore
