I really fancy having a go at making my own Ventile Smock and I've found some really inspirational examples on here ....

http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19086

I like this one and have ordered the pattern from the States, will have to mod it though as I like more pockets. :D

The question I have is:

Is it worth making it in a double-layer of Ventile or not? I have a single-layer WestWinds jacket already and that's fine for most of my needs but I quite like the idea of double-layer.

Any recommendations?
Cheers.

I've got some ventile material and want to make a coat some time.
I'm planning on doubling the shoulders and elbows and having single on the rest

Hopefully best of both worlds...

Double over the shoulders and elbows is good.
Single all over for summer/tropical/bush shirt.
Double all over for winter/heavy rain.
Double with triple on shoulders for **** awful weather.....

LOL! Thanks, depending on how much Ventile I can afford I may well take up John's last suggestion - I do live in Scotland after all ;)

Will probably go with PointNorth's seconds quality, do you reckon that is good enough? They do say it's seconds because of colour variations, but I'm not fussed about that - this is going to be a user not a fashion accessory.
