Hello all. Is anyone aware of some good internet sites with regards to Polynesian native skills/crafts? I've googled and searched but found little. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Alex
Alex, this site gives you a description of some of the skills used in building canoes and houses and also some descriptions of the tools used; Not very detailed but helpful.
What are looking for in particular and I'll see If i can find out more? I have been interested myself, particularly the Polynesian voyaging canoes, I even built a catamaran based on the canoes 20 years ago.
Thanks Jojo. The Polynesian Voyaging Site is interesting, thanks.
What I'm specifically looking for is the native skills used by Polynesian islanders to survive. Any and everything from fire making to food procurement, housing, culture, et al.
I realize that each island group was different but info from let's say New Zealand to Easter Island, and everything in between would be of interest.
Cheers, and thanks.
Alex
its not a website but Ray Mears' World of Survival book has a chapter on the bushcraft of western samoa.
Mostly fishing and canoes but shelters and other stuff too.
