Last week i purchsed a leather sachel type thing that came from a WW1 cavalry officer kit which is in great condition but very stiff ,so when i got it home i gave it several coats of neatsfoot oil to soften it . However the leather now has a very dry , matt appearance and has lost its glossy patena somewhat .
Should i continue with the oil or polish it up and accept that it will always be tough??

nikwax is pretty good for softening and waterproofing at the same time mate. Then when nice and soft if you still want it shiny give it a coat of good ol shoe polish

you can use things like mink oil but in yoursituation I would go for the nikwax mate
