Amazing what a decent polishing job can do. I once seen it (on tv) poured to create a kitchen worktop and it polished up nicely like that. On another show, some people converted an old concrete water tower and the contractors drilled out some beautiful cores to make a start on cutting windows.

Interesting to see.
I have to wonder about the state of the blade with all that mucking around though. Will it keep an edge ? Will it sharpen easily, will it chip and ping (the shovel seems to have done so) or will it roll ?

I think of it as a curio, rather than a real tool........

I did notice that. The edge got nice and orange while cutting, so unless he took a good few mm off very carefully on the belt grinder and edited it out, that edge will be fudge.

I lolled at the apparent assumption that because the shovel ferrule said 'tempered' that's it. Job done then!

Still, its a lovely letter opener.
