Cliplets look like they could be really good to use. See:

http://research.Microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/cliplets/

but, having downloaded it I cannot transfer any videos to it from my camera - even though I can play them on Windows Media.

I keep getting an error message

'Cannot open video file'

I have tried
.
  • Cliplets help - and this is just tutorials on how to manipulate videos once you have down loaded them to Cliplets
.
  • internet search - and found this
.
http://windows.appstorm.net/how-to/juxtaposing-still-and-dynamic-imagery-with-Microsoft-cliplets/
.
which annoyingly uses the same official Microsoft sample (horses on a beach) that I have but which won't download to Cliplets on my computer (and which I can play on Windows media player)
.

  • and this:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/is/cliplets/thread/88cdb1ea-935a-4b13-bfd6-77ce833621ee

where someone says:

'I've got this error when uninstalled windows media player.

So try to reinstall it in Control Panel -> Programs -> Turn Windows Features On/Off'

Being a bit thick - especially when it comes to computers - I don't understand what this actually means. The abbreviated language doesn't help but even if it was 'proper' English I'm not sure how I'd understand it. Having looked at it the 'Turn Windows Features On/Off' seems to be an on/off switch - not a place to which you would download a program.

If it just means 'Turn on windows media player' then it is already on.

I have also checked that I have downloaded the correct version of Cliplets (64 bit)

Can anyone please help me to get Cliplets working ?

EDIT

PS My camera is a Panasonic TZ30 and the videos it records are various types of AVCHD

sounds like you are missing the correct video codecs for the cliplets to understand your cameras file format

Errrr ....what are 'video codecs' and how do I find the correct ones?

Edit - I have looked up video codecs on wikipedia and I even understands some of the individual words but the totality is gobbledegook to me
Another edit - sorry - forgot to say thanks for trying to help so quickly

Just a quick update .....

...Thanks for the help so far - it has put me on the right track re codecs/converting. I contacted the cliplet help desk (only found it at the end of survey when I downloaded it again) at cliplets@microsoft.com, although they did say I should post the query on the Cliplets forum at:

http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/is/cliplets/threads

It seems the best files to us are MP4.

I then discovered that the software that comes with a Panasonic TZ30 can convert the video files to MP4, so I am now trying to create a trial Cliplet (something I started about 5 hour ago!!!!)

Another quick update........

well ........... got it to work (sort of).

I took a video of a running tap with a lit candle in the picture as well. Managed to create a picture with the candle flickering and the water 'frozen' - but could only get it to 'play' with Apple quick time and no idea how to import it to this thread - will be interested in how other people get on and whether or not they can import their cliplet here.
