Ah, OK, if that suits the way you wander :)

Where do you go wandering that you wear a 4.5" blade knife 'in case you need it' though?
I'm close to a very large private forest near where I work, me and the pup (avatar) wander through there and keep an eye on it for the owner, nice place to be.

Did you watch the video by Paul Kirtley that I loaded up here?

What he shows there is the cheap no nonsense version of Mr Mears genius solution to a non existent problem.

And if you don't live of bushcraft courses like Kirtley, even a simple cord loop without carabiner hook will do the job perfectly because you will use the ferrocerium rod less than once a day.

I carry mine in an attachment on the outside of a custom made pouch which usually contains my SAK, a striker, a sharpening stone and a few other odds and ends including an emergency sewing kit.
