I know it's a bit early, but I though I'd gauge interest.
I'm planning to go to the Moot this year after missing last year.
Would anyone be interested in splitting the cost of hiring a minibus to take from Scotland down to the Moot and back?
I've priced up a train ticket at over £160 :yikes:
I figure we could easily get a few of us together, hire a minibus, split the cost of hire/fuel, and work it out at less than that per person.
Obviously this will be tentative interest until later in the year, as we need firm dates etc.
I'm travelling from Dundee, and I daresay we can pick folk up on the way.
The only real restrictions I'm going to put on is that for ease of accounting it should be a straight financial split for the costs, I'm not going to proportionally break it down for whoever has travelled the furthest otherwise it'll end up like time to split the bill after a student meal in a restaraunt. ;)
One more thing, Toddy gets a front seat (if it goes ahead) and it'd be nice if the driving could be shared.

So who's up for it?

Gonna run it past HWMBO, but we have plans to go this year too. So theres 4 seats more from Dundee ;) Seems like a good idea.
But on a normal Drivers license I think the max number of passengers is 8. Gonna have to check that out. Also insurance is a problem if more than 1 or 2 people drive.

Have a look at your licence Ness and to be able to drive a 15 seater minibus like Graham you have to have class D1 on it, with a trailer you need class D1E

Hope that helps you out :)

I only finally got around to sitting my driving test in 2005. I'd held a provisional since I was 18 though
I'd need to sit another test to qualify to drive the minibus. Sorry, I can't help

cheers,
M

Every time you saw something of archeological significance we nearly drove off the road!

Hahahaha, I can well imagine Mary ;)

Hubby just informed me he has an old license too.
Like Mary I only past my test a few years ago, so I'm out, but He's up for it

From the direct.gov website
"Exempted passenger carrying vehicles
Holders of a full category B (car) driving licence may drive any of the vehicles listed below:
a passenger carrying vehicle manufactured more than 30 years before the date when it is driven and not used for hire or reward or for the carriage of more than 8 passengers
a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats provided the following conditions are met:
i. the vehicle is used for social purposes by a non-commercial body but not for hire or reward
ii. the driver is aged 21 iii. the driver has held a car (category B) licence for at least 2 years
iv. the driver is providing the service on a voluntary basis
v. the minibus maximum weight is not more than 3.5 tonnes or 4.25 tonnes including any specialist equipment for the carriage of disabled passengers
vi. if the driver is aged 70 or over, is able to meet the health standards for driving a D1 vehicle
When driving a minibus under these conditions you may not receive any payment or consideration for doing so other than out of pocket expenses or tow any size trailer; you may only drive minibuses in this country. Drivers aged 70 or over will need to make a special application, which involves meeting higher medical standards."

if im reading that right, anyone over 21 under 70, who has held a full uk licence for more than 2 years can drive it, with no trailer and under 3.5 tonnes.

I am also interested in coming, from Dundee. And would be willing to share the driving if im right about the above.

Due to work/flights/etc, I'm travelling down to the Moot a few days late, so I'll not be doing the bus thing.
As it is I'm going to miss the first few days :(
