Hi all,

Apologies for asking what has probably been asked a hundred times before but...

I'm based in London and am really keen to acquire bushcraft skills. In particular, I'm keen to learn about shelter building, firestarting, trap setting, foraging and orienteering. I'm the type who loves getting his hands dirty, no problem with cold/damp/general misery and enjoy a real physical challenge.

While I'm keen to have the best experience I possibly can, I also don't want to break the bank unneccessarily. If neccessary...well then I guess I would :)

Can anyone give me a really strong recommendation for something either relatively local or worth travelling for? Ideally would love to do a full weekend to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer

Pete

Welcome to the forum Pete.

Lots of choice where you are however I would recommend Paul Kirtley & his school Frontier Bushcraft: http://frontierbushcraft.com/

If you want a taster Google his video's (youtube) & blog. Frontier have won lots of awards & offer some great courses.

I've done my very first bushcraft-course this year in August at Frontier Bushcraft. Although I had some skills already (bow drilling, carving, natural cordage and such), I still learned A LOT! Highly recommended (quality course for a good price). I even had to come overseas, I'm Belgian, but I'll be doing more courses or expeditions with them for sure.

I wrote a trip-report about the course btw:

Thanks all, much appreciated.

Been lurking around these parts for some time - a friendlier bunch of fellows there surely never was!

Hello,

Just for a bit of balance, have a look at these people too:

http://www.woodlife.co.uk/

To declare an interest, the two guys that run it are personal friends of mine, however, I have nothing to do with their company....I just know they are very high class instructors and run very good courses. They run most of their courses in Hatfield forest so nice and easy for you to get to :)

Hope that helps,

Bam. :)
