I went here today:

Did a bit of this:

I had an accomplice, he's six (nearly seven) and likes tea made with powdered milk with plenty of sugar:

He's a bit partial to a scenic view:

Or two:

Which leads me on to my new favourite picture of my boy taking in the sights and drinking tea in the middle of nowhere:

Maybe the weather will be good again next weekend and we can have a driftwood fire somewhere and take the kelly kettle instead of the trangia, tea-tastic!

We had a quick play with a tarp in a long abandoned quarry, but with the ground being mostly moss over slate discard and no way to get a tent peg in, I'd be surprised if it would withstand more than a breeze:

The front I could tie up tight to the surrounding larches, but the back, with no way of anchoring it using pegs, was lashed to some sizeable bits of slate which some fallen trees had turned up:

Since we were rapidly losing the light, it was soon time to pack it all away to play another day:

Although, if you could get high enough up there was plenty of light:

We stopped and watched this fella, playing in the breeze up the side of a hill for a few minutes on the drive home, before admiring the beginning of the sunset over the Duddon Estuary:

The pic of your right hand man supping his brew, viewing his world is priceless. Wonder what thoughts he had buzzing in his head

That looks like a great day. Thanks for sharing; and enjoy the time with your accomplice now. They grow up wat too fast.

They grow up far too quickly; I hope you make the time to enjoy and make the memories :D

Funny how seeing someone else's photos of their youngsters brings back memories of our own though

Looks like a great day out; may you share many more of them :D

Thank you for the photos.

Mary

That place used to have a large ammunition dump somewhere very close and there's hundreds of buildings that used to store ammo dotted about the place with little embankments round them.
I've never been and should really go before it gets redeveloped out of existence.

Looks great. Never been to Scaryport before, closest I've been is Ennerdale.

Kids just love doing that kind of stuff.

Ahh

Some of you are thinking of the Broughton Moor in West Cumbria, just above Flimby. I think this is in the south lakes somewhere (I'm a West Cumbrian, originally, and take it from me, the 'dump' is nowhere near as scenic. I recommend you don't go, unless you like long concrete sheds surrounded by blast walls and an overwhelming sense of despair.

The overwhelming sense of despair can be avoided somewhat if you don't drive through Flimby to get there;))

Beautiful pictures.

Ahh, that makes a bit more sense now. I was wondering where all the scenic bits were cos anytime I'd been past it looked a lot flatter.
I still wouldn't mind a ratch about the place though.
