Ban on crossbows

A article in the Times today for a proposed ban on the sale of crossbows in the uk. I predicted this years ago when they were talking about banning the sale of airguns, then it was they need to be licensed here is the link

Years ago when the rumour eBay would ban the sale of knives I laughed at how that 'would never happen'.


When I heard about the potential knife online purchases I frowned and laughed a bit while thinking 'really? That's sounds too extreme'.


Hearing this just makes me sad as I know where it'll lead..

Time to panic buy and stock up on anything remotely liable to being banned!!

Yet another knee jerk reaction to a non problem! Whilst I completely agree it’s appalling that some complete lackwits have used used piece of legal sporting equipment to cause harm banning the tool isn’t going to stop the aforementioned lackwits from doing so with something else.
More than anything else it’s the blatant scaremongering and sensationalism perpetuated by the media that really gets my goat.

Ah, thank you. I knew there was some sort of prohibition.
Not so, here. In fact the bow hunters might even get 2 weeks to themselves, ahead of the gun-hunting seasons.

Bow hunting borders on a religious experience in some districts here.
Lots of places too crowded with people for even shotguns with buckshot.

Even to birds with flu-flu arrows and dum-dum heads.

I want a 165gr hunting bullet of .30 cal with good mushroom expansion and good mass retention.
The hydrostatic shock wave will plow a 6" hole in a deer. No hard points allowed.

Number of bowhunting vids on you tube that are comprised of someone firing an arrow into a bear or a moose then giggling about how nervous they were whilst the bear/moose hurtles off into the bush to expire, well, the number is too high. It is hardly a man against nature fight for survival if you are wearing $1500 worth of assorted camo gear, toting an equally priced bow and are being trailed by someone with a camera. If you are going to kill a thing, kill it.

You can bet the camera man is a PH with a .30 cal rifle for insurance.

Another band wagon in my view, just like knives, plus size models, plastics etc. Even though they probably need regulating like rifles, it's just another inconsequential pain in the neck cause for reputational credit! If they wanted to do something it would be a lot more forthright, which would probably be unpopular. That's politics.

The Excalibur Bulldog is only 400fps.
Doesn't sound like much but bolt head design can do an enormous amount of damage.
Exsanguination is a good word.

We have 4(?) distinct varieties of wild turkeys to 12kg and better.
I've watched video of "turkey-taker" broadheads doing far more damage than my 12 ga shotgun with 1.5 oz #4.

Turkey with a crossbow would be a really fun hunt.

Those uniforms ( not costumes) are worn by retired military. Officers with decades of serving and certain medals of good confuct or similar.
Goes back hundreds of years. 1500’s ?
