Army surplus warm weather bag rating?

I got a used MOD warm weather bag today. Actually it should have been a three season bag, but they got the order wrong. I'd send it back, but it only cost £30 and might be useful as an over bag or, well, just a summer bag. Thing is, I can get a lightweight warm weather bag from Decathlon that is only £25, and about half the weight and half the bulk. The Decathlon bag is rated comfort at 15 deg, limit 10 deg. I'd maybe keep the army bag if it was rated higher than that, but if it's the same, then I might as well send it back.

Anyone know the temp ratings of the MOD bags?

I'rd put it about the same as the Decathlon bag, used the issue bag quite a bit in the summer.

I've been doing a lot of Googling, and the best I can find is that the MOD sleeping bag is rated 1 to 2 season, which means it should be good somewhere between 5 and 0 deg. The Decathlon one is good only to 10. Have you tried the Decathlon one. I had a feel of one once, and it did feel mighty thin. But I don't know whether it's better designed. Then again, I don't know how well the Army ones are designed.

Is it the bag that opens up and you can use as a quilt or blanket? if so its worth having for that purpose its probably also going to rather easily outlive the decathlon bag in bushy type use/abuse
and will also maintain its value better if you decide to sell on

I would agree that the rating is 1-2 season but i wouldn't say 1-2 season is 0-5 deg. Ive done a fair few nights snowholing in the Highlands and the temperature usually hovers around zero. I certainly wouldn't use the summer issue bag, more like the Arctic one!

Sleeping bag warmth and rating is very subjective - what (if any) clothes you have on, how tired/cold/hungry etc . Ive not used the Decathlon bag so can't comment on the design, I would agree with Redandshane that the issue kit will probably take more abuse even if it is more bulky.

i would be cold on a summer night i think, never used mine in the uk, it would be good in the winter to put inside your other bag, and as said they are quite robust but do tend to snag a bit at times......
when it went down to 15-18 c in afghan i was COLD COLD COLD, but it had been 35 c during the day........

I decided to keep it. It may come in handy. May just keep it in the car as an emergency bag/quilt, or even just an extra layer for if the kids are cold.

i used the issue bag in Jan '07 on sailsbury plain, and, although i wasnt overly warm i wasnt that cold either. i used in conjunction with issue bivvy bag like and also wore t shirt fleece and trousers and wooly hat, but thats pretty much what i wear anyway when camping.
