I currently have a USMCPRO http://ukmcpro.co.uk/index.php?page...tegory_id=97&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=113
and a Desert Camo http://www.strikeforcesupplies.co.uk/index.php?method=stock&id=20087 Tarp/Basha,
both weigh in at around a kilo. The 3x3 I have been using with my hammock for the last number of years and I can find no fault with it, it has kept me dry in some major rainfall and has plenty of room under it for kit. The Desert one I bought to use with a bivy bag when ground dwelling as its smaller but still has plenty of space. I am planning on going on a trip to Sweden ( with The Irish Bushcraft Club) and would like to take a lighter tarp.
I have been looking at the USMCPRO 2x3 http://ukmcpro.co.uk/index.php?page...tegory_id=97&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=113
or the DD Solo http://www.ddhammocks.com/product/tarp-solo so my question is what Tarp/Basha would you recommend light but strong and durable . I have not seen to many reviews of the DD solo and I am interested to hear opinions of it.

So USMC Elite 2x3 Vs DD Solo ?

I use the the DD 3x3m tarp, its very good. Im sure the build will be similar on the solo. I got mine from the seconds section and I cant find where the fault is on it so seems a bargain at 50% off.

Hi the DD Solo isn't really mean't to be used with a Hammock it's more for ground dwelling. I'd go for the 3x3 go for one of the seconds or if you can wait I'm starting a DD group buy in a couple weeks.
As for the DD tarps they have been well used by loads of people for a few years now and have even been used on sky's discovery channel where celebrities were using them when living in the jungle for a week.

I agree with SB, you really need 3.5m minimum to cover a hammock. The 3x3 does cope but it's a bit close for comfort if the weather switches direction, I've had to close down the end tie outs to make doors before or just tie my waterproof over one end.

Rubbish Paint sketch but you get the idea ...

Have you thought about a sil nylon version rather than PU coated, for the similar kind of coverage you'll save about a third in weight. You'll probably have to shop across the pond though, OES & Warbonnet are a couple you could try. There's a chap over here who's distributing Warbonnet stuff now, I best not link to him though as some folk think I working for him :)
Depending on your budget cuben fibre is the way to go, try Hammockgear and zpacks. I'd give you some links to read on hammockforums.net but the site is down at the moment.

I have the 3x3 for my hammock , I am looking for a lightweight tarp to use while ground dwelling in the price range of the DD Solo. As it seems to be well regarded maybe this is the way to go. I will keep an eye out for the group buy but as I am in Ireland it may be easier to get it direct.
