Barely unpacked from the last event, this gone weekend I did the alpkit big shakeout. I assume most people on here know who Alpkit are as they do adverts on this site. They also do an event in partnership with Thornbridge outdoors in the peak district.
I had heard about the event a couple of years back, but it generally conflicted with other events. As I take my youngest daughter to the bushcraft show, this was a good one to take my eldest to. Lots of different outdoors activities and things to inspire her.
The event has a number of free activities, but also there are a lot of different activities you can book onto. I must admit on the way there I was concerned as I had not booked onto anything. But as it was our first time at the event, we had plenty to do with the free activities and exploring the site. One of the main free activities were the bushscouts, they did knife safety, fire starting, paracord, crafts, slack lining and axe throwing. There were also a number of films and talks. On the subject of freebies we also got a tshirt and a mug each, plus free tea and coffee all weekend.
My daughter really enjoyed it and is keen to go back next year. I think we will book some activities next time like canoeing or caving. I will also need to make sure we take the bikes next time.
