After my bout of madness in making a Bushie clone, I came back to my senses, and took part in a Bushcraft knife making contest on BCUSA with the first design and came 4th!
This was my entry.
All my knives are designed/made to be users, I wanted a bushcraftknife, a bit bigger with a 125mm (5") blade and 125mm (5") handle, drop point, with the blade wider near the handle 32 mm, and somewhat triangular in shape, I find it easier to slice away from me with a triangular blade with a slight curve to the cutting edge. I don't want to have to spend much time polishing my blades (life's too short
) so I etched it with my favourite concoction of flaked garlic in vinegar. 3mm 01 tool steel I think is a good thickness for that size knife.
The handle has black liners and Mexican Rosewood scales, and brass lanyard tune and pins.
Now I'll need to make a sheath for it.
While waiting for the contest to run its course, I made this second knife design as a Bushcraft knife commission. This one is also 01 tool steel, 215 mm long, the blade is 110 mm, 32 mm wide, in a sort of leaf shape I like. The handle is black linen Micarta, with steel tube and riveted steel pins (pics taken before I put the rivets in)
Comments (constructive of course) welcome.
