    PLCE Bergan mods?

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd want to try it with any serious weight in the front pocket. As a way to carry waterproofs, or an extra sleeping bag or something else lightweight, it could have merit. Sent from my Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70F using Tapatalk

    PLCE Bergan mods?

Interesting. I'd assumed that a heavy duty/industrial sewing machine was required to get through the webbing and cordura. May well give that a go! Sent from my Crystal using Tapatalk

    PLCE Bergan mods?

I recently picked up a surplus plce infantry long back bergan as my big "65l isn't cutting it" bag for longer or more kit heavy trips. While prodding about the internet to pick up a couple of side pouches, I came across a couple of places (www.dragonsupplies.co.uk and www.dragonsupplies.co.uk)...

    Rollypoly dump pouch alternatives?

There are a number of companies doing lighter alternatives to the maxped style dump pouches. Viper do their "covert dump bag" which is a design I've seen from a few other companies too (just can't remember who) Blue force gear have thier "ten speed ultralight dump pouch" and "belt mounted dump...

    Bilbo Baggins Pipe

I didn't see a single process in there that couldn't be achieved with hand tools, given the time and inclination. the machinery was just speeding up the process, in some cases significantly (e.g. not spending hours sanding it to shape, because you can use a disk sander instead)

D-rings - What do you have on yours?

Inside pockets, or near them, I like D-rings as a place to attach dummy cords to things like my compass. Sometimes my torch and pocket knife too.

    Original Kephart Knife Examined

Very interesting read, the slimness of the handle surprised me, I'd always thought it would be a bit chunkier.

    Dry bags?

Thanks everyone! So, I went for a few karrimor ones for now, since of the options they seemed like the best bang for my buck in my use case. Although I'm keeping my eye out for good deals on the heavy duty Ortlieb bags, since a couple of big ones for stand-alone use might be nice in future.

    Dry bags?

The exped I'm replacing is a small, probably around 2-3 liter mark. but then, I'm also thinking I could do with a couple of bigger ones, maybe up to the 15 - 20 liter bracket, for keeping full changes of clothes, or my sleeping bag. I'm mostly intending them to be used inside a pack, or removed...

    Dry bags?

I'm looking for peoples recommendations on dry bags. My old exped ones have just given up the ghost, and my couple of newer alpkit ones don't seem to be available at the moment. Can anyone suggest what options I have for decent quality, preferably fairly lightweight, drysacks, in a variety...

give amazon a go. they have a larger range and are slightly cheaper. admittedly the company I used where in germany, but even so mine only took 4 days to get here!

    inexpensive rugged watch?

I've got an orient mako sitting under the tree :) not the budget beater I was looking for, since I discovered a long lost cheap digital to do that job, but as an every day watch, it should be very nice.

    inexpensive rugged watch?

having come across an old, cheapy watch I thought I'd lost years back hidden behind a set of shelves, I've ended up changing tack. I'll use that as my beater, since the new battery only costs a couple of quid, put the money I've saved the money for a decent EDC watch so I can retire the seiko...

    inexpensive rugged watch?

I've also found a sekonda watch which seems to fit the bill (well under budget too) are they any good? all the one's I've seen so far are either manual wind-up, or automatics (wound by the motion of your wrist). haven't seen any mention of batteries.

I'm seriously liking the vostock models. have you ordered from the site you linked too? are they any good?

    inexpensive rugged watch?

found a rotary on ebay that looks perfect for about £30 total. just missing a bit of GITD on the bezel. I'm very tempted. the vostock amphibias seem to be a little more expensive than £40, but some of thier other models are in the right sort of region. and for a few quid more (about £44 ish) I...

    inexpensive rugged watch?

that model just happens to be the citizen that is one of my every day watches. prices have gone down.....interesting. maybe replacing my every day one, and using the old one as my dirty watch would be a possibility. food for thought. it's a good idea, but often times I need to refer to the...

    inexpensive rugged watch?

the seiko has considerable sentimental value since I inherrited it from my dad. and I've just had a close call with the citizen when it got caught on something when I came off a climbing wall. the strap broke and I almost lost it down a drain. plus, as things go, they are both big investments...
