I cant comment on the pro's and cons, but it is the knife used by Alan, the winner in the first season of Alone, if that's anything to go by.
edit. the blade is the same but the handle isn't.
I use similar. Mine are made from cotton and have lasted a couple of years and only ripped slightly when caught on barbed wire, but that would happen to any type.

I'd stick to the full tang. I'd have thought it was easier to do that than try and do all the grinding/cutting filling/drilling for a stick tang without damaging the blade.
