Lords Wood work party meet May 28~30 2021

Typical! First time I've had an inclination to be sociable with fellow bushcrafters in over 10 years and the very next day I get a letter telling me I have my second covid jab on that Saturday! As the first one took me out for 4 days I think I better bow out of the meet this month.

Hi George - Hope the exams are going well (I always hated them, but then I'm dyslexic so the reading of the question was always... interesting) I haven't been able to attend any meets recently due to the fact I'm effectively unemployed at the moment :( I've not made any blades yet - I bought a...

Hi George - hope you are doing well, and had an enjoyable christmas/new year. The reason for bothering you is to ask if you ever got your paws on a set of hardness testing files, and if so what your thoughts on them are, and where you got them from. Speak to you soon Mark

    My first knife handle

...I'd love to, but I only have my lounge to work in, and after melting a hole in the carpet practicing fire by friction, I'd probably manage to set light to the sofa if I tried setting up a forge

well the spatula is the easiest one to my mind: Split a log - avoiding the heart wood, then split a 5-10mm 'plank' off it then shape. This is the method I use anyway...

    My first knife handle

This is my first attempt at re-handling a knife, after the owner (a friend not me) managed to shoot the original rubber/plastic one while attempting to zero his rifle... I hadn't oiled/waxed it when I took this photo, so the contrast between the oak and sepele is not as pronounced as it is...

    Will it Jerky?

And the jury is in and rabbit does jerky. Surprisingly well - it dries alot faster than beef, has a lighter colour (though that could be the result of being a little more sparing with the marinade) the flavour is actualy less meaty than beef, if that makes sence; with beef jerky I always know...

    Will it Jerky?

I'm sorry to hear that fella, I assume the sale was to fund the new cutlerer business? Leupold do do some nice optics don't they? AA's are lovely weapons, and if you are hitting everthing you are aiming at then anything more is just bells and whistles really - though the bells on the wolf are...

    Will it Jerky?

Hi HillBill thanks for the suggestion- that certainly gets rid of the majority of the pungency. However I’m concerned whether the curing process will take care of the rest... probably only one way to find out; offer a few up to the god of kitchen experimentation and see what happens. I'll let...

    Will it Jerky?

Ok, I find myself skint, and thanks to my airwolf and the harvest being finished on my main permission, I have a glut of rabbits so I'm considering making jerky out of 'em. Have any of you actually tried rabbit jerky? I’m thinking the pre cooked fragrance of the bunny might taint the...

    Painting a wood stove ?

Glad your sorted, I was going to suggest stove polish - I got on better with it than the paint, but then I wasn't doing the whole stove - just touching up areas

    Norfolk and Norwich Group

In a word NO! Not a good idea Kai - Even paracord aint a good idea in that location. See without going into the mathaticals of it (better people than I have on other threads) the loadings are considerably increased by the angles involved (...or something like that) An 8-10mm Dia cord/rope...
