It's very solid pieces of kit. The jacket and trousers last for ages, even when wearing it all day long every day.
Most professional soldiers don't use the issue jacket however, as they prefer the SAS pattern smock (made by various vendors, with the most popular being made by Arktis).
The...
It's the same here in Denmark, they are sold everywhere. When I was a boyscout everyone had them.
The folding cup is nice, but can end up leaking in the fold. And older models contain the nasty plastic component that we all want to avoid these days. (I don't know if the new ones do as well...
Mine weights 509g excluding the gas canister.
Thats including the burner, pot, windshield, pot cosy, lid, igniter, heat exchanger and cup.
Easiest and most effecient system I have tried to date.
For lightweight purpose, I wouldnt look at gas anyway.
The Jetboil gets up to twice the amount of effeciency compared to that setup.
For lightweight single user purposes, I would chose the caldera cone with a TI mug. The fully enclosed cooking area also improves upon the effeicency.
My Jetboil is the best personal cooker I have yet used for...
It's not that much the Sabre 75 is too short, but enough so that it doesn't give much comfort.
Now I just need to figure out a place to get the Vulcan in size 3, for a reasonable price :)
Even less breathable than regular goretex. My Paclite jacket is not breatable enough for active use, and as a consequense i purchased a jacket in eVent, it's lightyears ahead!
Goretex doesn't have much more than it's brand name left. You can get cheaper, better, lighter alternatives today.
I'm too well aware of potential sizing problems (thats why I got a unused Sabre 75 standing in my basement now). I guess a size 3 berghaus should be a tad longer than the Sabre 75 ?
It have also been the Vulcan that I have had my eye on. Thanks for confirming it :)
Does anyone know ehere I can get a cheap Vulcan ? The pound os very cheap for me atm, so it's ok if it's new from Britan.
While I love the design of the Karrimor Sabre 75, it's sadly too short for my back.
If I need a backpack a bit longer than the Karrimor, and with roughly the same design/features, which model should I then go for?
If you got sewing skills, you can purchase ETAproof coton (ventile) by the meter at Extremtextil.de
It's a bit expensive, so I wouldn't do it as a starter project.
But with skills and time, a nice top quality garment can be made for a very reasonable price.
Les knows his stuff, and is thought additional local skills prior to recording the show. His descisions are without doubt though through.
But I guess it's like when you watch elite sports, and of course know better than the coach, what he should do with the team ;)
What is the british government's current plan for sustainable energy?
Here, we are apparenrly supposed to have 50% covered with renewable sources by 2020.
While I live in an apartment and therefore have fewer options for eing more 'green', I certainly is aware. For example, to reduce...
it was of course only to exaggerate the point of population reduction.
If we halves the population, and instead double or resource consumption, then we are back where we started.
If we instead maintain the current population, and halves our consumption, then we get a more sustainable and...
Rome was not built in one day. The individual effort might seem small currently, but it will hopefully gain momentum and become not just a new trend, but perhaps a new way of seeing things. It will lead to substantial savings in resources.
I do not have the numbers here, but I belive it was...
USA with a population less than 1/5 of CHina, is consuming more recources. So the number of people on the planet is not the answer (not the only one at least).
