    Tracking CSI (bit gory)

the other reason why I'm not totally sold on the big cat idea, bah humbug and all that  , is that often in large cats three of the toes will be in a diagonal line which helps to distinguish left from right, i.e. the two middle toes will be slightly ofset from each other, with one ever...

    Tracking CSI (bit gory)

are they king size rizlas? if normal size and the track is smaller then seems far too small for a big cat? SM if it didn't seem to 'fit' being a fox then I always believe in trusting your gut instinct and I trust your judgement that the claws I'm seeing aren't. wasn't suggesting the fox took out...

    Tracking CSI (bit gory)

nice! looks like a fox print. badgers toes tend to be more in alignment to each other, more square shaped print overall and normally in mud that clear you'd see the five toes. Your track is more of the diamond shape with claws characteristic of a fox. You planning on keeping any of the skull and...

A truly magical wildlife moment! (Picc Heavy of a Stoat)

awesome!! you lucky bu**er! the only stoat I've ever seen was one that I tried to avoid on a motorway (whilst going just ever so slightly over the speed limit) and resulted in my stopping just short of the tree line. escaped totally unhurt until I stepped out of the car and fell straight down...

    Tracking.....poo guru

I like poo me,:D but useless when it comes to bird poop. I thought crows normally left pellets (?) to get rid of most of the waste so best guess would be a game bird of some sort. Doesn't look like the pheasant poop I normally see in local woods but then that has probably exploded out of the...

    Rv 2009

an absolute blinder of a weekend. Cheers harryhawk but can't take the credit of helping to organise it as I just turned up to make lots of noise and keep the real organisers, Mr Smarty and Nikki, awake. Huge thanks to both of you and to everyone else who gave their time and skills so generously...

    Tracking Interest....food sign

woodmouse. dormice will leave the teeth marks around the hole but the inside is all scooped out as they hold it between their front paws and twist it around. The photo looks to have more of the teeth marks that you'd see when someone was biting down on something, e.g. an apple, and the messy...

Anyone know how to prepare and cook these?

first heard of aduki beans through the dreaded gillian mckieth who reckons you should soak for up to 12 hours or overnight in cold water. mung beans she suggests soaking until 'well swollen' or overnight or add straight to soups/stews etc. I think the more you soak them, the more digestible they...

Tracking CSI...Who is the killer here? (Warning....dead stuff)

given the dimensions you suggest, looks too big to be a small mammal so unlikely kestrel......maybe magpie and baby rabbit? "we are detective, we are select"....etc... the next verse from said thompson twins song seems very apt for a bunch of bushcrafters!!.... We dress up in disguise To...

also agree that its a bird and thats its the spine you're looking at. Not a chicken as got one of those rotting on my desk in front of me, but pheasant seems logical choice.

    Unusual encounters in the wilderness

was staying in the pyrenees a few years ago and had made a make shift lean to to sleep under. During the night I was woken by lots of gun fire and shouting (in french) and dogs barking. I didn't know what was going on and so just stayed huddled under my shelter. After a few minutes I suddenly...

    First tracking steps!

I have the same book!! Its great for leaving in the bathroom especially if people want to know if they're part racoon, part human. think sniffing scat when out tracking is just one of those old habits I can't shift now, and worringly, I'm not sure I want to stop.:o

Tracking Software!!What would that means? please ur opinions

ok a bit of a long reply and probably only of interest to Auto tracker so sorry to rest of you that will fall asleep by the second paragraph!! You're right in that a similar technology is already being developed. Sky and Zoe Alibhai from Wildtrack work with human trackers who have great...
