Hammocks, is longer and wider better?

    Any recommendations?

    Ticks and Hammocks

I've read that they sense heat and CO2.

Hammocks, is longer and wider better?

That's super useful to know. My wingspan is 169cm, so wider one for me as well.

    Ticks and Hammocks

HaHa, I've never had the slug problem... but I'm a mouth breather and I never wake up hungry, maybe they just crawl straight into my gob! Interesting on disguising body smell. Recently I switched to a very low carb diet from a sugary diet. It's early days yet, but I think the mozzies/gnats are...

Hammocks, is longer and wider better?

I've not used a hammock before and have a choice of two. I'm 5'7", 170 lbs, side sleeper. One hammock is 320 x 170cm, and the other is 270 x 140cm. Any thoughts? I like the idea of the bigger one because I've read bigger is better for side sleeping; but it lacks the double skin (I'll use a mat...

No, this was early in the morning, at the head end of my bivi, coming in.

    Ticks and Hammocks

I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm saying that aren't they also in leaf litter, not just grass and bracken?

    Ticks and Hammocks

Thanks. 3mm is about right. I've been aware of ticks for years but when I used to go into the woods as a kid there wasn't so much lyme disease awareness/risk as now. What type of insect repellent do you use? DEET based? I don't like that, stuff :-(

    Ticks and Hammocks

Here is one example of many I've found that reference leaf litter as a tick habitat https://greentechohio.com/2018/11/06/fall-ticks-active/

Deer sleep in the area, in the leaf litter. So won't the ticks fall off into the leafs and wait there till they sense heat and CO2 again and then head towards it?

    Ticks and Hammocks

It looked like pictures in the leaflet in this page, which are larger than a pin head. https://www.bds.org.uk/index.php/advice-education/lyme-disease

    Ticks and Hammocks

The reason I'm asking is because I've found them in my bivi bag :-(

    Ticks and Hammocks

Where I have been going for winter bushcamping will be prime tick ground now (leaf litter and loads of deer). So far I've been sleeping in a bivi bag under a tarp. Is a hammock a good way to avoid ticks locking on in the night?

Are all 900 down bags the same?

Thanks. Why get the alpkit over the rab ascent 900? Although the ascent 900 is low spec relative to the others in rabs range, isn't it still better spec than the alpkit which doesn't have hydro down?

Are all 900 down bags the same?

Thanks. I have a synthetic, snugpak tactical 3, and I get cold in it at +2c, despite it being rated at -7c comfort level. (tactical 3 is 1.7kg, packed 23cm x 20cm). So I was looking at down because I don't want to increase size or weight, preferably reduce. The rab 900 is approx 1.5kg and 24x45...

Are all 900 down bags the same?

Based on materials and construction (not rating), is there any reason that one of these 3 sleeping bags should be warmer than the others? 1. Alpkit 900 https://alpkit.com/collections/sleeping-bags/products/skyehigh-900 2. Rab 900...
