    Traveling

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I can use many of them in this story and others in the series I plan to write (and in real life). I'll also definitely read the book, @Corso. @Oliver G, the character is meant to learn how to navigate, but over a course of multiple stories I plan to write...

    Fear of the dark

@C_Claycomb, awesome, thanks. I suppose I've never considered it because the woods I've mostly traveled in were tame and I picked nights with plenty of moonlight. If I ever go to places likely to have bears, lions, or other large wild animals, I'll be sure to procure one of those.

    Traveling

Great, thanks this is exactly what I needed. I assume when no stones are available then fallen branches, leaves, and pine needles work just as well.

    Traveling

I'm writing a short story. I'm not very skilled at bushcraft, although since I started researching for this story I've become interested in it so I have decided to try it sometime soon. With regard to the story, suppose you had to traverse a great distance on foot through thick woods you did...

One of the caches I found mentioned Dravantura (an event at Drava in Croatia, featuring workshops on wilderness survival, building shelters, recognizing plants, making knots and arrows, diving, etc. -- at least that's what the...

    Greetings from Croatia

Hi all and thanks for the welcome! I was on vacation this week and I only see now that I've gotten some responses. crosslandkelly, thanks for your response. The plot is not tied down to a particular era and it's not strictly on Earth. It's an entirely imaginary world, though somewhat more...

    Hi from Croatia...

Hello! I'm surprised to find someone else from Croatia here. Though... I'm not into bushcraft myself, just trying to do some research on the topic. No luck yet, though, but if you have some tips, leave them over on my introduction thread here...

    Greetings from Croatia

Hello, everyone! My name is Nikola and I'm from Croatia. I'm afraid I'm not much of a bushcrafter (is that the correct term?) and my motivation for joining is not to learn to practice the art of bushcraft myself, but rather to teach it to a fictional character I'm trying to write a story...
