help needed on Swedish M39 jacket sizings

Ordered one on Ebay and got it already. It's brilliant and will be great in the woods in winter. The 98L is a perfect fit for me apart from the sleeves are too long but that's no problem. It was made in 1951 and it looks unworn and perfect condition. Thanks for your help guys.

help needed on Swedish M39 jacket sizings

Fancying one of the wool Swedish M39 jackets and been researching sizes. Getting conflicting info. One Ebay seller in Lithuania seems to be able to supply many different sizes but is saying that 96U is equivalent to a 105cm chest (about 41.5 inches) whereas others are saying a 96 is 38 inches...

    axe restoring the edge shape

Finally it's Little and Large. The big one is an American felling axe weighing about 5lb and the small one is only about 3.4 lb Thanks for looking.

    axe restoring the edge shape

This is an odd one. Look at the weird triangular shaped eye. I like the shape of the head and might like to cut some material away to make a bearded type axe.

    axe restoring the edge shape

This small axe doesn't look too bad, maybe just a re-profile following the exixting curve

    axe restoring the edge shape

Here are two more small Kent patterns. I've treated then with white vinegar to remove rust and now need sharpening. You can see the arc of the edges are not uniform and worn more on one side. If I lay them together it's obvious how bad one of them is out of shape.

    axe restoring the edge shape

First apologies for such big photos but don't know how to make them smaller. This small Kent pattern one is badly beaten up on the bit edge and needs a lot of re-profiling. It's especially worn on the top corner.

    axe restoring the edge shape

Thanks guys, sorry for being slow to reply, been a busy week. Basically thought they are mostly just small chopping axes. I don't have a specific purpose for them yet as I already have a few axes that I use. It's more a case of bringing a sad old rusty axe head back to life for the pleasure of...

    axe restoring the edge shape

Hi, got some old axes that I'm retoring. The bit edges of some are terrible and the original arc shape has gone - like they are flattened or too curved. I saw an article somehwere showing you how to re-draw the correct arc before filing/grinding it and it used a pair of compasses but I can't...

    Upgrading to Windows 10

Personally I just can't be arsed. I hate getting a new PC because it takes days to transfer everything and getting it running as I want it, then you have to relearn how to use the new version of Windows. But they have us by the short and curlies don't they, eventually you have to succumb to it...

advice on thread for sewing leather with machine please

Thanks, not sure what a walking feed foot is though. I have an old 1939 Singer 201-2 and just standard and zip feet. I have found the seams slip which is annoying. Do you need more foot pressure or less for leather than say cotton? I tried adjusting the pressure a bit but made no difference.

advice on thread for sewing leather with machine please

I've got some soft leather and a good heavy duty Singer sewing machine. I want to make some pouches etc. Had a go with some heavy duty cotton thread but the bobbin struggles a bit (thread probably too thick) and the tension gets screwed up and bunches sometimes. So I wondered what can the...

renovating old axes - advice on handles please

Got a small Kent pattern one called The Midget. Just finished derusting by sanding then soaking in white vinegar. Wow it really works well. It's looking great. I can see it was hand forged as the cheeks are quite uneven. Loving it already.

renovating old axes - advice on handles please

I've picked up a few old axes on car boot sales. All need new handles/hafts. I don't want to spend a fortune on the hafts and I've seen Faithful hickory ones for sale at reasonable prices. Firstly are Faithful any good? Secondly I have two big felling axe heads, one being a 6.5lb Elwell and the...

    sharpening augers

Thanks everyone well they're not razor sharp like a knife but I didn't want to take too much off till I knew what I was doing No bevel on the bottom, it just follows the natural curve. It looks that way because I just took a small amount off to remove the surface rust but didn't carry it on...
