    Peta

as far as I care, humans outrank animals. This however doesn't mean that we have to go out of our way to make them suffer needlessly. I don't have a problem with people being vegans or vegans, but the righteous people (who are all meat eaters) who complain about hunting, stalking etc. but are...

    Mac's and PC's :-)

I work in IT, and I have done for 12 years. Yet I just had to give up trying to install a game on Vista, as it just did not want to work properly. I must have spent at least 20 hours trying to get it to work, complete with a rebuild. I don't want to have to muck about for 20 hours to get...

    Mac's and PC's :-)

I've got a normal macbook that I've had for 3 years, it's still going strong. I think it cost me 850quid. For me it's a no brainer. I have a windows box that I play games on, but it's a total pain in the bottom to get working properly because it uses vista. There is lots of stuff that you get for...

    Disability and behavior of members

I have to agree with everything you said here mate. It's always going to a bit of both - people are not mind readers, and there will be some situations where people will take things said in the wrong context. Internet forums are a prime example :) I'll treat everyone the same regardless of how...

Well I think I may have hit rock bottom

HI Mate, Don't worry - I think a lot of people have hit rock bottom at some point. Mine was when after running away from home a couple of months later just owning one small rucksack and a couple of changes of really rubbish clothes and my fortnight check from the DSS.. I know it's cliche to...

    Starting my Garden

No worries mate :) Roughly you will get at least 2-3 kg's of spuds on one plant (enough for perhaps a week's worth of meals) Maincrop ones will last longer than the earlies (earlies think of new potatoes, Maincrop the roasting or baking ones) . Once you lift them you can store them in sacks, or...

    Boiling a Chicken

A good way to see if a bird is cooked is to try and twist off the leg from the thigh. if it comes away clean and very easily, it's cooked. Best way is throw it in a pot with a bottle of wine and leave it for 40 - 60 mins. It'll be ready when you get tired of wiping away the saliva from your...

Anyone seen "Alone in the wilderness" ?

That would be cool. I did see the series advertised but I was unable to find a DVD of the programme.

    Starting my Garden

HI Mate, You can see if you have rhubarb if you carefully uncover the soil, you'll see the tip of the crown. leave it in, as it's a perennial so you'll have it year on year. Don't bother chitting potatoes, it really does not make much of a difference. As for the types, 1st earliers are...

    help with ps3 setup

I use wireless only in my house, there is no problem at all. The controllers are not wifi they are bluetooth, which runs on a completely different frequency. There should not be any overlap at all. If there is wifi interference it will most likely be cheap, imported electronics that are not...

    help with ps3 setup

Just to add that there was a problem with the playstation network yesterday for the older "original wide" PS3's that stopped them signing in. They should be ok now apparently. Take the time to sort out WPA / WPA2 access, you really need a secure network.

    planting calendar

I think they say that the weather advances about one week for every 100 miles north you go? so if you have a book from Devon that says plant in week 8 and you live in Manchester, plant in week 12.

    Snow tracking

I went out a couple of weeks ago and got a few shots, and I think I can recognize them. It's difficult to get a good pic because the snow was so deep - nearly 40 cm. Rabbit Roe deer Cross country skiier :)

What do you do when it's snowing?

I'm usually somewhere like this when the snow arrives..

How long have you been without a wash?

My record? I think it's 3 days. Even hiking / camping in scotland I jumped into a little loch and had a clean even though it was only about 5 degrees. I can't even start to think about not washing for weeks at a time - strange, as I love to get covered in dirt on the mountain bike and hiking...

    Starting my Garden

HI Mate, Don't worry too much about the compost heap. Don't actually touch it over winter, as it's probably keeping lots of insects and slow worms and possibly hedgehogs warm inside. In spring turn it over (with a big fork dig in and turn it about, get lots of air in there) If it's looking like...
