My friend let me play with his sak

and it ended up looking like this :D He's well chuffed. I used an old chopping board for the scales so I think they could be sycamore or beech. I put a nice leather lanyard on it with a four strand round braid. Cheers for looking Andy

    Harvesting mushrooms

Ok, I am growing my own mushrooms from a kit and they are coming up nicely, but the question is how do I pick them? is it better to cut them off at the base or twist them out of the soil taking some of the roots with it? Does the same technique also apply to wild mushrooms? I really want to...

What can I make out of this leather?

I have just received two pieces of Rhubarb-Tanned Sheep Leather as a gift. I don't know what to make out of it as I think it is too thin for your normal knife sheath or possibility bag. It is very soft and and smells wonderful. Here is a link to the shop it came from but I can't get a direct...

    black leather problem

I have been recently given a large piece of 2mm black leather. The problem is that the dye is coming out and leaving black marks on everything it touches. I'm not sure what type of dye it is but is there any way to fix it? I am thinking of making some small bags out of it as I assume it isn't...

Anybody know what sort of bird this is? Sorry for the poor quality pic, it was taken through the trees and out of seven frames its the best one I got (that's enlarged in quite a bit) here's the original taken with a 300mm lens. I hope it gives a bit more sense of scale (it was huge)...

    thoughts on making stuff.....

I have started my first knitting project-a scarf. A friend has shown me how to do it and I have made many mistakes, nothing major but things like a couple of holes where I missed a stitch and the fact that it keeps getting wider the longer it gets  :o Anyway, yesterday she asked...
