Have a look in the menus - all the Garmin GPS handhelds that I've used have the ability to use OS grid references rather than WGS84 lat/long. There is a cable that will link the unit up to a PC and allow you to send waypoints to the GPS from mapping software on the PC, but from a quick look I...
Unfortunately none of them will specify the accuracy because even with WAAS/EGNOS/GLONASS enabled it still varies constantly depending on weather and surroundings. In real world use of a Garmin GPSMAP 64s, which has a larger antenna than most handheld units, the best accuracy I saw, on an open...
Hi Eric,
I already have a Full licence so I'm not a candidate for the course, but I'd be interested in joining/supporting the club in other ways in the future. Good luck!

Never tried the crisps, just the bitafiskur. It smells like the scuppers on a badly maintained trawler but the actual taste is much milder than you'd imagine. I did pass up the various delicacies involving shark that had been buried for 6 months though...
AFAIK they altered the formula in 2013 so that "methylated spirits" no longer contains methanol as the denaturant. I can't find any mention of it's use as a camping stove fuel being banned.
That said I have a bottle of bio ethanol from B&Q which I'll test out once my current bottle of meths...
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... I believe "swimmer's itch" also occurs at some of the hot springs in Iceland, where the water is warm enough for the parasites to survive all year round regardless of the surrounding climate!
Just as a heads up, the moor is very dry at the moment, although rain over the last few days and during the upcoming weekend will no doubt help a bit. There's already been one run-away swaling fire this spring that severely damaged a large area of the National Nature Reserve at Trendlebere Down...
I know that feeling... We moved last year and even bringing all our stuff with us it was a few weeks before I had a chance to get out and explore. The commons are a fascinating area, try and make a dusk visit to Aylesbere in May/June to hear the nightjars, fantastic birds!
We used to live just down the road from Woodbury in Budleigh Salterton before we moved across the other side of the Exe. Have you explored the commons yet?
What sort of coverage range were you hoping for? Water is an excellent absorber of radio frequency energy, and a woodland is essentially a lot of tall columns of water clustered together. I use licensed business radios that operate on VHF frequencies, which are slightly better at penetrating...
Thanks Hamster - I don't think I've ever managed to make a Maxpedition bag show any signs of wear, they just seem to shrug it off! Glad you're happy with the Sitka :)
AFAIK the springs are simply there to counterbalance the weight of the door as you raise and lower it, even if they have gone slack it would only make the door harder to operate and wouldn't affect how it sits when closed. The mechanism does sound very similar to ours, next time I'm out there...
